Strata Geotechnics is one of the UK's leading ground investigation, testing and monitoring contractors.
For over 20 years Strata Geotechnics has provided high quality Ground Investigation and Foundation Testing services throughout the UK. Focusing on the production of quality data, Strata maintains an enviable track record of being at the forefront of technology and innovation which includes the development of bespoke drilling rigs, digital data, sonic drilling technology and automated static load testing.
As part of the UK's largest multi-disciplinary ground engineering contractor, Strata Geotechnics has built its reputation upon delivering market-leading, best practice pile, foundation and retaining wall testing solutions. We have significant experience operating within all environments and across all sectors UK-wide.
Site specific ground investigation reduces the geotechnical risks that ground conditions can pose to any construction project.
Ground investigation is an intrusive investigation required to establish and determine various engineering properties of soils and rocks for geotechnical and environmental purposes. These engineering properties are then used to establish design parameters for foundation and substructure design. Information gathered during the investigation combined with historical data provides information regarding subsurface contamination and features within the soil profile. This allows clients the opportunity to address design, planning and land purchase quandaries and/or avoid previously unrecognised risks. This is all reported prior to incurring avoidable costs, making it an invaluable aspect of project design.
The principal purpose of pile testing is to determine or verify the safe working load for the pile-soil system and to ensure pile design assumptions and load bearing capacities are compliant with the specification.
On most piling contracts, it is a requirement to carry out non-destructive testing on operational piles in order to verify design assumptions and confirm load-bearing capacities. Prior to commencing with pile installation, the specification will clearly identify the on-site testing procedures that are specifically tailored to align with the chosen method of pile installation and the associated geotechnical risks involved. Pile testing is carried out by our team of in-house test engineers who are fully conversant with the requirements outlined in the ICE Specification for Piling Works and Embedded Retaining Walls.
Providing an end-to-end service from ground investigation to the largest types of foundation engineering with a 36-year track record delivering supporting commercial, highways, rail, marine, energy and utilities works across the UK.
Working closely with Van Elle’s specialist rail division, we are able to offer a complete ground investigation package, including provision and operation of Road Rail Vehicles (RRVs) and the latest rig technology.
Strata Geotechnics has extensive experience of carrying out and managing ground investigations for large highways projects throughout the UK. Our experience covers both on-road works, including large Smart Motorways schemes, or off road works for new road construction projects.
Strata Geotechnics has experience of carrying out and managing ground investigations for large windfarm projects throughout the UK. Our low bearing pressure rigs and equipment are able to cope with the toughest terrains and restricted access sites.
We are committed to continual improvement and professional development. We are a member of a number of professional organisations and awarding bodies. All of our drilling crews are directly employed, trained to NVQ Level 2 in land drilling and are audited by the BDA.
