Rail Engineering

The Van Elle rail team deliver outstanding results on overhead line electrification, geotechnical engineering, signalling, civil and infrastructure projects throughout the UK’s rail network.

We offer a complete end-to-end service including project management across ground investigation, design, piling, foundations, civil engineering, and embankment stabilisation solutions.

What are our rail services used for?

Being holders of a Network Rail Principal Contractors Licence (PCL) and On-Track Plant Operations Scheme (POS), we are expertly placed to deliver large-scale, complex on and off-track geotechnical solutions.

Whether it’s ground investigation (GI) using our award winning VE-MOG road rail drilling unit or the installation of Circular Hollow Section (CHS) piling utilising our MOVAX and BSP Impact Hammers, we have the expertise, expansive fleet and ground engineering know-how to safely deliver on time and to budget.

Some rail engineering services we offer, as well as the plant and machinery we use are:

  • Electrification/OLE, foundations and steelwork
  • Lineside Civils, including signalling
  • Ground Investigation
  • Slope Stabilisation
  • Track Bed Stabilisation
  • Structures

We are a Network Rail Plant Operator Scheme (POS) approved supplier owning, maintaining and operating our own fleet of road rail vehicles.

We have a proven track record of safety, reliability, quality and on-site delivery.

This has been demonstrated over many years working on some of the largest and most complex projects across the UK, such as:

  • Midland Mainline
  • Brent Cross
  • Core Valley Lines
  • Carstairs

POS Representatives are trained and experienced in the safe and efficient management of On-Track Plant Operations.

We have a lift planning capability through qualified and experienced lift planners both for on-track and off-track lifting. In addition, we also hold planning competencies for tandem lifting.

ALO (Any Line Open) Planning is a key part of our teams expertise allowing us to produce ALO plans and manage their implementation on site through fully trained ALO coordinators.

We are also members of the Rail Plant Association (RPA) where we collaborate with other providers in the industry to share best practise and develop new ideas.

Fleet maintenance and management is undertaken from the main facility at Kirkby-in-Ashfield in Nottinghamshire.

With over 30 years’ experience across all sectors and having successfully completing works on many high profile and challenging rail schemes, we are trusted by the UK’s leading contractors to operate safely and efficiently whatever their piling, embankment stabilisation, civil engineering or foundation requirements.
